The negative plate is placed in the fifth intercostal space in the left front axillary line and at the apex of the heart. The distance between the positive and negative electrode plates should be greater than 10 cm. When operating in the anteroposterior position, the patient should be on the right side, with the positive plate placed on the left edge of the sternum between the third and fourth intercostals, and the negative plate placed on the left side of the back under the scapula.
